December Summary
See below a summary of scriptures for the weeks of this month.
The Disciple Cycle actually begins the first Sunday in May because it follows the flow of real life during the year. Remember that in some months have 4 or 5 Sundays in any given year. Just move to the previous month or next month to find the next consecutive week.
Although the scriptures remain the same in the annual cycle, the commentary each year will focus them differently. You will see the commentary for the current year and previous years so that you can use them all for worship preparation if you wish.
Remember that the Disciple Cycle is organized into five themes that cover the whole of salvation history in the Bible:
- May through the first week in July (weeks 19-27) Israel’s Covenant: Genesis - Joshua
- Second week of July through mid-September (weeks 28-37) David’s Legacy: Ruth – 2 Kings and 2 Chronicles, and Psalms
- Mid-September through mid-November (weeks 38-46) Faithful Servants: Job, Ezra-Nehemiah, Proverbs, and the later Prophets
- Mid-November through the first week in February (weeks 47 – 6) Jesus’ Purpose: The Gospels and the Epistles
- Second week of February through April (weeks 7-18) Christian’s Mission: Acts and the Epistles
The cycle provides scriptures for worship theme, team meditation, and small group discussion in every week.
1st Sunday in December (Week 49) Jesus’ Purpose
Worship Theme: Luke 4:16-30;
Team Meditation: Isaiah 42:1-9 and Psalm 22;
Small Group: Luke 4:16-30 and Mathew 5-7 and Galatians 5
2nd Sunday in December (Week 50) Jesus’ Purpose
Worship Theme: John 8:12 and 9:1-41;
Team Meditation: Isaiah 60:1-5 and 19-22;
Small Group: John 8-10 and 1 John 1:5-2:17
3rd Sunday in December (Week 51) Jesus’ Purpose
Worship Theme: 1 Corinthians 13;
Team Meditation: Hosea 11:1-4, 8-12;
Small Group: John 14-16 and 1 Corinthians 11-14
4th Sunday in December (Week 52) Jesus’ Purpose
Worship Theme: Luke 2:1-20;
Team Meditation: Isaiah 9:1-7;
