Sharing Space within a Church

  1. Do not meet just with the pastors of these churches. The Clerk of the Session, or Building Cmte members must be in the room and you need to hear their questions and concerns. Clergy alone negotiating space is a bad idea for both parties.
  2. Don't expect to be welcomed by the members with open arms. Often times struggling churches resent the enthusiasm and growth they witness in the "tenant" church
  3. "Tenants" often feel like step-children and just need to know that the "owners" have the right to refuse any use of the space
  4. Get in writing, the chain of command on getting permission to use the space for other activities.
  5. Pick a time in which the "host" church members are not on the site, for any reason. For example, don't use the Sunday School hour to use the sanctuary and vice versa. Occupy the site when it's yours to use.
