Road Signs

  1. Signs serve two purposes and should be designed and used accordingly: 1) Advertise the Church: Large, sandwich board signs, name, time & location 2) Directions: Smaller, more portable signs communicate "directions" for those attracted to the location through advertising or inviting. (These signs should say, "CHURCH" + time + arrow --- nothing more.) If you insist on putting the "name" of your church, use very small letters, then "CHURCH" on a stand alone line.
  2. Signs, more than any other medium, provide the best exposure/ presence in an area for a church plant.
  3. Signs need to look professional, no matter what the purpose. (Conversely, signs not properly maintained, showing wear and damage, communicate another message.)
  4. Signs are by far the best investment for marketing, bar none - budget accordingly. (I've seen church plants drop $10 grand on mailings and their signs look pathetic - this sends a contradictory message.)
  5. Signs need to be update periodically
  6. 6. Signs need to be portable so that those who place them out don't grow weary. (Contrary to what you may hear, most signs "disappear" due to being left up, long after the service is over.)
  7. Signs should be yellow background with either red or black letters. (Don't ask me why, I just read advertisers who use signs!)
  8. Directional signs need to be placed at all major intersections leading into your location
  9. Advertising signs need to be placed at 2 or 3 of the most traveled and visible intersections, near your location.
  10. Most common mistake: TOO MUCH INFORMATION. Do you realize how little info people assimilate driving 45 MPH down a road? Answer: less than 2 seconds!!!
