Associate Pastor

Pastor, Associate

  • It is your responsibility to gain clarity of expectations
  • You show value by completing assigned tasks…when you don’t you shows the value of a relationship
  • You are responsible for closing the loop…
  • Never have the senior pastor come seeking answers to things you are over…
  • Come with possible solutions not problems.
  • Take ownership of you area
  • Be flexible
  • Do whatever is asked
  • Over communicate
  • Be a 360 degree leader
  • Do not tell the senior pastor what you are going to do…make suggestions on things you would like to see happen…
  • Make sure you see the senior pastor succeed…
  • If people complain…don’t use vague statements…like people were talking…come with names
  • All information flows up
  • Build trust through loyalty, hard work, ownership, team player, buying into the vision
  • Know that second chair leadership can be powerful…
  • Put in the time and work to make sure what you do Grows…only 1/3 of what I do actually has sustainable fruit. But it is never because of a lack of effort

Response

Closing the Loop: A task is never completed until the senior pastor/or person who assigned the task knows that it is completed. When I say close the loop it is a communication piece that nothing is left hanging…this flows both ways…when you assign a task it is not completed until they return and tell you it is done…

Never have the senior pastor come seeking answers to things you are over:  Never have the senior pastor seek you out. If he or she has to look for you to get information it is not good. The information needs to be flowing up…the reason you over communicate what you are doing is so that the senior pastor never gets blind sided or asked a question that they can not answer…keep in mind the larger the staff the more this falls on the Exect. Plate…but this still applies…in my environment…I know when I miss the boat because my boss says…that is information we should have had for this meeting…I then get up…and go and find the info and bring it back to the table…

As an associate…you know the numbers…you know the problems…you know the solutions…and you know how to get it done

360o leader…

  • Lead Up - Influence the boss and others higher in the agency hierarchy
  • Lead Across - Influence co-workers in your organization and associates in others
  • Lead Down - Influence subordinates and those lower in the agency hierarchy
  • Lead Out - Influence those who do not work for your agency

Hope that helps…

Response

I can say it now...without multiplying small groups your church...

Will not minister effectively to the members in your church

Will not close the back door

Will not create the community it needs in order to grow

Will not have lasting mission into your community

Will not sustain growth

Will not have an effective disciplining component
