Miracle Sunday
At Celebration Covenant Church (around 200 in 2005), we finished a "Miracle Sunday," last Sunday, Dec. 7th, aiming at $27,500 in cash and pledges. Our total was over $60,000. Some reasons for the result, I believe:
(1) We asked persons to seek God in prayer for the amount they should give, then add 10% to build a well for a medical center in the Congo. We aimed to raise $25,000 to finish down payment on land we are purchasing, another $2500 for the well.
(2) We followed all the instructions of our denominational fund-raising guru (but the adding 10% for mission was our idea--or the Holy Spirit's idea).
(3) We prayed about our choices for persons to play key roles in the campaign.
(4) Our campaign chair is a young man with great spiritual and natural gifts and integrity, who is also a generous giver.
(5) We were serious about the prayer component. Each member and friend of the church received a stack of cards with prayer reminders for each day of the 30 days leading up to Miracle Sunday. (The stack of cards was held together by two of those little metal ring clasps).
(6) Many of our church members have been journaling regularly for nearly two years now (using Wayne Cordeiro's LIFE journal), which is having a marked effect upon their spiritual maturity.
