Leaders Who Grow Leaders

What separates a leader from a non-leader?  Leaders always raise up other leaders; non-leaders don’t.

Leaders are measured not by what they do personally but by what they cause to happen in the lives of others
    – Success for leaders is not what they achieve but what they help others achieve
    – Leaders don’t look for followers

Spiritual Midwives

• They assist people in the birth of their child
• Spend time with pregnant people
• Never ask if they want to give birth
• They assist people in the birth of their child
• Spend time with pregnant people
• Never ask if they want to give birth

The Bottom Line

• Leaders equip others to replicate the DNA throughout the organization and every level of leadership
    – Leaders of leaders
    – Leaders of systems
    – Leaders of major    ministries
    – Leaders of short term programs
    – Leaders of committees
    – Apprentices
• Leaders provide the environment in which people grow
    – The church becomes an incubator of faith
• Leaders grow disciples based on their God-given gifts

The Prevailing Mindset

• Not “What must I do today?”
    – But “Who will I equip today?”
• Instead of a “to do” list
    – You have a “to be” list
• Instead of focusing on programs
    – You focus on people
• You get what you look for

The Process

Identify new leaders

• The key is to shift your lifestyle from  a doer to a scout
• Continually develop a list
• Pray for those on the list

Recruit potential leaders

• When the time is right, let them know you think they have leadership potential

Equip those who are ready

• Provide the skill building
• Help them discover their gifts

Match and Deploy

• Allow them to do what they were created to do and enjoy doing
• If the area of ministry doesn’t exist, let them create it

Coach those in the field

• Be available when needed
• The goal is for the person to become an equipper rather than a doer
• One of the growing areas of ministry

You need to think Farm System

• Jesus invited people to join him on a journey
• Jesus didn’t try to work with everyone
• Jesus choose based on character and giftedness
• Jesus was more concerned with reproducing his DNA than personally advancing the Kingdom

The Fractal Method of Equipping

The constant repetition of something over and over and over

• Replicating the DNA is harder than discovering it
• Remember,
    – the leader’s primary role is to ensure the DNA is replicated throughout the organization and levels of leadership

The Origins of the Fractal Method

• Exodus 18
• The way Paul understood leadership development
“  And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2
• “Feed my sheep”

The Keys to Fractalling

• The original Fractal must represent the mission in macrocosm
• Every leader mentors four other leaders
• “Who can I get to team with me on this mission?”
• “How can I break this project down into small enough pieces to include lots of people in the mission?”

You need to think teams

The Keys To Fractalling

• Make the responsibilities time sensitive
    – No one burns out
    – Many come forward
• Span of care is workable- 4 to 10 people
• Use this process for all ministry
