Dramas

1. Willow Creek Community Church has excellent drama sketches. P.O. Box 3188, South Barrington, IL 60011-3188.

4. Using powerpoint to help. Here is a tip, if you have people who would like to do drama but don't have the confidence to memorize the lines, the time to rehearse, or just have stage fright do the following:  tape the drama, then with PowerPoint 2000, you can insert the video clip into a slide in the slide show and make it part of the morning service. Use ULEAD video studio to do the editing and can add laugh tracks, background music, noise, etc. What is good about doing it this way is that you can control the time a bit better, but more importantly, a different way to involve people that otherwise would not be. You still do live drama, but this is just another way of doing things different.

5. This is a free script from the Drama at Bay Life series.  Use these tools to help create an environment in which people can hear, consider and respond to the message of Jesus.  Most raise a question or highlight an issue that is relevant to most people.  Most scripts are designed for a cast of one or two people.  This free script is titled "What, Me Worry?!" and relates to the themes of worry and anxiety.

DRAMA FROM BAY LIFE

Helping people to meet, know and serve Jesus - that is the mission of Bay Life Community Church. The material included in this packet has been a wonderful tool in the pursuit of this mission.

To change a life you have to touch a life. Drama - when it is done well and addresses the needs of the audience - can touch people in a powerful way. It has the ability to bypass the natural defenses we often use to keep others out. It can engage the head and the heart. It can bring laughter, tears or insight.

The scripts in this packet are not an end in themselves. Instead, they are tools that can be used to construct an environment in which people can hear, consider and respond to the message of Jesus. Use them when they will further this purpose. Avoid using them just to spice up a service. Most of them are designed to raise a question or highlight an issue that is meaningful to a significant portion of the audience. They are best used as a portion of the experience in which the message of Jesus is conveyed.

We hope you find these tools helpful as you serve Jesus in the midst of the people entrusted to your care. Purchase of these scripts includes the right to unlimited use of them within one local church, congregation or fellowship. Copies may be made for the use of those involved in planning and presenting the material. For public presentations outside the normal worship services and outreach events of the church or for individuals or groups who desire to present this material in a variety of churches and/or other locations, please contact the authors for pricing and permission.

DRAMA AT BAY LIFE - COMPLIMENTARY SCRIPT

Title: "What, Me Worry?!"

Topics: Worry, Anxiety

Description: In this humorous monologue, we see how one woman deals with the fact that she hasn’t hear from her husband. In her mind she quickly goes from him having an affair to being left a widow, until she finally hears from him and learns that he’s just had his cell phone turned off during an important meeting. Of course, she quickly denies being concerned.

Characters: 1 person

What, Me Worry?!?
(pacing back and forth, visibly upset)
(under breath)

Oh my gosh… What am I going to do? Ok… It’s 6:00. He said he’d be home by 5:00. (trying to convince herself) He’s fine, he’s fine. Probably just got held up.

But what if he didn’t. What if he’s lying in a ditch somewhere. Anything could’ve happened to him. He could’ve gotten mugged! Or maybe his car broke down and he’s lost on some deserted highway! (shaking it off) No, no… I’m sure everything is okay.

But why hasn’t he answered his cell phone? You know, that new secretary of his is really pretty. What if he’s having an affair! What if he got into an accident. (pause) I wonder if our life insurance is paid up. Probably not. I bet it expired last month, and now I am going to be left a widow with no way to take care of the baby. And funerals are so expensive these days. I guess we could move in with my mom. Ahhh… but she just sold the house and moved into that tiny condo. Great! Here I am a homeless single mother!

I have to try his cell phone one more time. (dials phone) (voice very perky) Honey! Hi! Where have you been? I’ve been trying to call your cell phone. (listens) Oh… meeting ran late and you had the ringer off. Of course! (listens) You got the account! That’s great! (listens) What, me worry?!? No… Just curious if you’d be home for dinner!
