Coaching Seminars

This month we have one of the nations leading practitioners and one of our long time associates.

Todd Hunter is presently the National Director of Alpha USA. Prior to working with Alpha, Todd served as Director of Allelon Ministries International (2001-2004) where he coached about 100 church planters; helped setup the ministries of the foundation; wrote the original drafts of the founding documents. Todd is also well known for his work with Dallas Willard and the Kingdom Living conferences. Preceding Todd’s work with Allelon, Todd served as the National Director for the Association of Vineyard Churches (1994-2001) with John Wimber where he was involved with church planting and leadership for over 25 years.

Bill Tinney-Brittian is an associates of EBA and has served as a transformational pastor in three denominations (United Methodist, Presbyterian Church USA, and Disciples of Christ). he specializes in researching, exploring, and is a practitioner in the emerging church.

Seeker Cycle for August

How are seekers most likely to connect with worship in August? Although there is not sure pattern to the summer, it is not uncommon for August to take a “sudden turn to the serious”. Is it because people have finally rested through June and July, and in the midst of lower stress are finally able to ponder deeper questions about life and death? Is it because they have finally caught up in their reading, or watched more movies, or somehow escaped from their ruts to pay more attention to the world around them? Or is it because August family reunions have taken place, or are soon anticipated, and immersion back into the extended family has resurfaced tensions and anxieties? Or ....Click here for more

Find of the Month

A not-to-bad website for non-Christians can be found at http://www.lookingforgod.com/ . Although EBA does not endorse the theology of this website, we do see value in many of the things it offers because it uses an abundance of scripture. It focuses squarely on Jesus and the need for all people to find faith through him. Of special to interest to me, Bill Easum, was the Fathers Prayer. The video and the text is excellent.

The Leap from Program Church to Adaptive Church
Tom Bandy

There is no greater and more stressful shift in church growth than the leap from program church to adaptive church. First, let me refresh your memory about how EBA analyzes churches. Track 1 churches include “chaplaincy” and “family” church models. We all know how the issues of control, revitalized worship, and clergy dependency around care giving represent major attitude and skill shifts for leaders and members alike. The “program church” is the next step, and this too is a stressful leap from consensus management to permission giving and servant empowerment. Nevertheless, the next shift from “program church” to “adaptive church” represents the greatest watershed ....click here for more

A Vow for Next Summer by Bill Easum

Most established churches lose most, if not all, of their momentum in the summer. They experience what is called a “summer slump.” This article explains why and what church leaders can do about it. I know it is too late for this summer, but it’s the right time to implement the actions plans that will make next summer a “summer hump.”

The Assumption

The thought is that everyone takes a vacation in the summer so attendance at church should go down. While there is some validity to this thinking, it is no where close to reality. Click here for more

Breaking Through To a New Sense of Mission by Peter Armstrong

Leading congregational leaders to deepening their spiritual discipline and breaking through to a new sense of mission…a story…

What happens when denominational issues impact upon the local congregation? What happens when these issues cause people to leave and de-stabilize the congregation? What happens when the Senior Minister decides to leave and takes significant leadership and a percentage of your congregation with him? What happens if you are on the ministry team and it seems like everyone is leaving? What happens if your discernment is that God wants you to stay because you believe that God is saying, “He is faithful and will finish the work that He began in us”? And what happens when this all happens?

Let me tell you a story of... click here for more

Book of the Month

Entrepreneurial Faith: Launching Bold Initiatives to Expand God's Kingdom, by Kirbyjon Caldwell and Walt Kallestad with Paul Sorensen

Drawing from both the example left by Jesus and their sixty years of experience as pastors, the authors paint a vivid picture of the life of a spiritual entrepreneur. The first part of the book is motivational while the second part becomes more practical. If you want your horizon enlarged or challenged, you will find this book helpful.
