Lessons of Discipleship

More Ready Than You Realize: Evangelism as Dance in the Postmodern Matrix, Brian D. McLaren

By: Linnea Nilsen Capshaw

“Let’s review these seven lessons of discipleship rooted in the last words of Matthew’s Gospel.

• Disciples have confidence in the full authority of Jesus Christ.
• Disciples are people with a mission.
• Disciples are identified as disciples.
• Disciples teach.
• Disciples have a global/local vision.
• Disciples are empowered.
• Disciples live in hope.

If we engage in spiritual friendship with others, if we try to help others become disciples, we will find our own understanding of what it means to be a Christian changing. We will find our purpose aligning around being and making disciples of Jesus Christ in authentic community for the good of the world. We will see our lives as a dance to God’s beautiful song, and we will feel it our incomparable honor through spiritual friendship to help others feel the song’s wonder and be swept up into its graceful beauty and resounding joy.”
